Solid unit, base is metal not plastic, the arms are metal and not plastic, this is a comfy chair. This is a big chair. larger than the Serta Big and Tall chair it is replacing. went together in half an hour with the included tools. came with spare screws just in case.Update: after three months, the saddle has bent and the whole chair rocks almost two inches from left to right. the weight limits are not accurate I am under the limit and still the saddle has failed.the padding of the chair has totally broken down.the massage function being USB is a total joke, your better off leaning on your phone and calling it over and over.I will try to return.This chair is horrible! A "big and tall chair" blast ng a 500lb weight limit shouldn't have arms that dig into your thighs at less than the highest weight. Even the lumbar support is uncomfortable. I wish I would have gone shopping in a store where I could "test drive" the chair first. I probably would have chosen something different.
